2023 Miss Edgar County Fair Queen Pageant Rules

Personal Characteristics: In order to be eligible, contestants must certify to the personal characteristic in this section:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age & not have reached her 22nd birthday by January 1, 2024.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.  Contestant & parent or legal guardian must currently be a resident of Illinois for a minimum of six months.
  • Must be a legal resident of Edgar County for 6 months prior to the pageant date or a graduate of an Edgar Co. High School (Paris, Chrisman, Shiloh or Kansas).  Must reside with her parents/guardians or apartment with friends (living with a boyfriend is not acceptable).
  • Can never have been charged with or convicted of a felony offense (other than minor traffic offenses).
  • Was born female & has always been a female.
  • Must be single & never been married or had a marriage annulled.
  • Can never have been pregnant.  Is not a adoptive parent of a child.
  • Is of good moral character.  Has never performed any act or engaged in any activity or employment that is or could be characterized as immoral or indecent.

Contestant agree to:

  • Be personally interviewed by a panel of judges in a business suit or dress.
  • Present a one-minute memorized speech on stage for judging.
  • Appear on stage for in a one-piece swimsuit with taupe heels. 
  • Appear on stage in a floor-length evening gown. 
  • Contestants will be involved in a dance production number during the pageant.
  • That all clothing MUST be approved by the pageant director prior to the pageant.

Former County Fair Queens who have competed for the title of Miss Illinois County Fair are not eligible to participate.

Contestants will use extreme caution & are encouraged to make the web profiles & social networks private when posting on site including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok or blogs.  This includes photos that may be posted as well as written comments whether by the contestant or by another individual even if not tagged in the post/video/etc.  The pageant directors will be given access to the contestants social media and has the right to ask to have the posts removed.  Failure to do so will result in forfeiting entry to the pageant or the title of Miss Edgar Co. along with all prizes and gifts received.

All tattoos must be covered up at all times during the pageant, events & appearances.  Body piercings will be limited to only ears & one in each ear lobe.  No alterations to appearance may be (piercings, tattoos, etc) until the end of the pageant.  If selected as queen, contestant agrees not to make any said alterations until the end of her reign.

The Miss Edgar County Fair Queen Pageant committee shall determine the time, manner & method of conducting the competition.  All practices are closed, only directors, former queens, crew members, or those approved by the director.  Each contestant must arrange her personal schedule as she is expected to attend all practices.  If a contestant misses more than 2 practices, she will not be allowed to participate in the Pageant.  The final practice on the fairgrounds is required and is a closed practice, only the director, pageant committee, fair board members & staff will be allowed in the grandstands, friends or family members of the contestants will not be permitted to watch.

No cell phones will be allowed during the pageant for any contestant.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  It is expected that cell phone usage will be limited & in good taste while representing the Edgar County Fair.

Decision of judges is final.  Any grievances or objections relative to the contest will be referred to the Edgar County Fair Board.

If selected as Miss Edgar County Fair 2023, the Queen will serve as the hostess of the 2023 Edgar County Fair.  She must be available to be present at the fair for its duration.

The Queen will not consume alcoholic beverages while representing the Edgar County Fair.  The Queen will refrain from smoking/vaping while representing the Edgar County Fair, officially or unofficially, at any time.

The Queen will represent Edgar County at as many other area pageants & functions as possible.  She will be chaperoned by a Pageant Director when she is representing Edgar County.  The Queen may be chaperoned by a parent/guardian ONLY with prior approval from the Director.

The Queen is under obligation to present herself in a self-respecting manner at all times throughout her year as queen, even when not officially representing the Edgar County Fair.  If at any time during her reign she is charged with, or convicted of a felony crime, she will be required to relinquish her crown immediately and the title may be offered to the first runner-up.  If the first runner-up chooses to decline the position the title may then be offered to the second runner-up.

All personal appearances as Miss Edgar County Fair shall be approved in advance by the Pageant Director, as well as any photographic sessions & pictures released as Miss Edgar County Fair.  The Queen may not set up or designate someone else to set up her personal appearances as Miss Edgar County Fair.

The queen agrees not to enter any other pageants during her reign with the  exception of representing Edgar County in the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant in January of 2024 as part of the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs annual convention held in Springfield, IL.  This is mandatory.

Parents and family of the Queen are welcome to be present for any and all events where the public is permitted.  Parents and family must have the understanding that while the Queen is performing official duties, the directors or crew present will have the authority regarding the Queen and details of her duties.  This includes the Miss Illinois County Fair Pageant weekend where it is imperative that the directors and crew are the Queen’s chaperones until the weekend is complete.

In the event of her marriage, pregnancy, violation of the set rules, or any other reason the would keep her from fulfilling her obligations as Miss Edgar County Fair 2023, the Queen will relinquish her title, crown, privileges and all gifts; and be succeeded by the first or second runner up.

Contestant agrees to abide by all the rules of the Miss Edgar County Fair Queen Pageant as well as the State contest now in effect or hereafter announced.

The manner in which the newly selected queen conducts herself should always be that of respect for her, the Edgar County Fair and its Fair Board, at all times during her reign.  If at any time the Edgar County Fair Board and Pageant Directors fell that any of the said rules or duties have been broken it is at their discretion to release the reigning queen of her title.  At that time it is required to immediately return all prizes to the pageant director.

The Queen agrees to meet the directors and the fair boards executive members the morning following the pageant to sign a copy of these rules which serve as her contract with the Edgar Co. Fair throughout her year of service.
